De Nederlandse School Ottawa

Who we are.


De Nederlandse School Ottawa was founded in 1982 to teach children from Dutch immigrants the language of their parents.  As the School grew, there was a need for a formal structure and, in 1990, it was incorporated as a non-profit organization under the official name Dutch Language Program Ottawa (DLPO).  The following year, the School became an officially recognized charitable organization.

De Nederlandse School Ottawa receives financial support from two local school boards (Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board and Ottawa-Carleton District School Board) for any courses administered under these boards and from the De Nederlandse Taalunie (The Netherlands Language Association).  Donations form a major source of income;  fifty percent of any donation is tax-deductible.

According to the Statute of Incorporation, the objectives of the DLPO are:

The preservation, promotion and teaching of the Dutch language and culture, including all aspects of the Dutch-Canadian heritage.

The Nederlandse School Ottawa is managed by a Board of Directors, which for 2009-2010 consists of the following people:
